I don't know of any, Keith. I know him only through anthologies.
Thanks, Melanie. Keith is looking for Ransetsu, a contemporary of Basho.
Thanks, John, Gautami, and Vaughn. I spent a few days in what we call the mountains around here. As I explained to a friend from western Canada, it's a matter of looking at a molehill through a magnifying glass.
A story about Spaniard Soldiers after they stole Aztecs' gold, filled their pockets with that gold, two of them sank into a channel full of water, they drowned. The other one shouted: "It's nice to die as a rich man!"

Bill, do you know if there is a decent collection of Ransetsu's haiku out there anywhere? I have Googled around and come up empty.
Such a nice detail...makes a great combo with the universe!
Keith, "Lotus Moon: The Poetry of Rengetsu" (2005, White Pine Press) is a nice collection.
