my mind says, it could only be for fun...just a time pass...the poet seems to add a pathos juxtaposing twilight and all :)

Devika, "long twilight" is a summer kigo. In addition to its literal meaning, I intend it to suggest the metaphorical long twilight of the widower's last years.

Thanks, John.

I got that Bill...thats the pathos element, I said...

I know many old widowers/ widows who continue to talk aloud to their spouses, just trying to fill their monotonous life with voice...and some virtual happiness...

watching them we feel sad, but most say they are happy,

and thinking of it..finally life is a choice until we are alive -some argue, some fight, some cry, some laugh with others and with oneself! :)

and as said before...its all a matter of perspective towards life, perhaps

Our neighbor was one,
he argued also during the long, dark night.

Anyway, he was never married.

old man is angry,
got no-one
to argue with
