Greetings from one "retired academic" to another. Just got in and read your kind words. Thank you. Strange, I was thinking about you yesterday as I found myself echoing your sentiments when: "Three months after my fifty seventh birthday I wrote my first Tanka." Have to keep finding these self-imposed hurdles. I taught English for over twenty years (My voice gave out.) but I've written a lot more since I stopped. Regards.

Some call it retirement; I call it liberation. Until December I never wrote anything but academic prose. Your comments mean a lot to me, as you know I have a high regard for your work.

By the way, what did you teach (as an academic) . . . unless the answer is somewhere else on this site.

Anonymous Poet: I taught American Literature, African-American Literature, Literary Criticism, Crime and Detective Criticism, and two introductory film courses, in addition to the usual introductory lit and composition courses. I'm still teaching the film courses, but I'm winding it up at the end of the current semester. Thanks for asking.
